Privacy Policy for Genie

Last updated: 13 September 2026

Genie ("the app") is a trivia quiz game. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is used.

Data we collect

Genie does not require an account and does not collect or store any personal information itself. We do not have a server of our own. The app does display ads, served by Google AdMob — see "Advertising" below for what that involves.

Network requests

To fetch quiz questions and categories, the app sends anonymous requests to the Open Trivia Database (opentdb.com), a third-party public API. These requests contain only the quiz parameters you choose (category, difficulty, number of questions) — no personal or device-identifying information is sent. Please refer to Open Trivia Database's own policies for how they handle request data.

Advertising

Genie shows ads through Google AdMob. To do this, AdMob and its partners may collect and use data such as your advertising ID, approximate location, and app interaction data to serve and measure ads, as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Where required (for example, in the EEA and UK), the app asks for your consent before any personalized ads are requested, via Google's User Messaging Platform. You can review or withdraw ad personalization consent at any time from the app, and can also manage ad personalization for your device generally in your device's Google Settings.

Play Games Services

If you choose to sign in with Google Play Games, the app receives your Play Games player ID, display name, and profile icon from Google Play Games Services, and uses them to show your name/avatar in the app and to submit your scores to leaderboards and unlock achievements. This data is handled by Google under your Google account, not stored on any server of ours. Signing in is optional — you can play as a guest instead, in which case none of this applies.

Data stored on your device

Outside of the advertising data described above, the app stores a small amount of data locally on your device only, and it is never transmitted anywhere:

This data stays on your device and is removed if you uninstall the app.

Permissions

The app requests Internet and Network State access to fetch quiz questions and ads, and Foreground Service access to keep background music playing while you play. No other device permissions are requested.

Children's privacy

Genie is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If the app is configured for a child-directed audience, ad personalization is disabled accordingly.
